I never would have guessed that a Power Rangers movie would have looked this good. As a fan of the original series — or at least the series as it existed in the 1990s — I hoped it would be something worth talking about, but given its not-so-film-friendly tone, I was not optimistic. Heck, you can look directly an an attempt they made back in the ’90s to make it happen…it didn’t really work, and the only memorable thing to come out of it was Ivan Ooze.

So has the movie nailed it? That certainly remains to be seen, but from the two trailers we’ve received so far, they seem to be well on their way to making a fan out of this writer. With the movie itself still a solid month-plus out, we didn’t expect a final trailer for at least another week or two. Looks like Lionsgate is eager to let the Rangers be known to the consumers, as they’ve gone and released this brand new minute-long “Power Rangers All-Star Trailer” to hold us over.

Check it out!

As you saw, the first half of this trailer was largely more of the same of what we got in the first two trailers, but in the second half, we got a lot more Zord action shown to us. In addition to the Zords, we got to see more Rita, Goldar, and a better idea of how the visual effects meshes with the more grounded tone of the film. Honestly, I’m still not completely sold on the visuals, but with a film called Power Rangers, I think we should be forgiving of something that’s a little bit campy.

Below is the official synopsis for Power Rangers:

“SABAN’S POWER RANGERS follows five ordinary teens who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove — and the world — is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so, they will have to overcome their real-life issues and before it’s too late, band together as the Power Rangers.”
