Production Notes From Saban’s Power Rangers Reveal If the Original Cast Will Appear in the Film

We are about a week and a half away from the long awaited release of Saban’s Power Rangers from Lionsgate. At last we will have the opportunity to see if director Dean Israelite’s vision of our beloved Power Rangers that we remember from our younger days. We know for a fact that there are going to be a lot of aspects from the original television show that are going to show up in the film. For example, Rita Repulsa, played by Elizabeth Banks, will reprise her role as the Ranger’s antagonist, but with an awesome twist, she used to be a Ranger herself! Also we know that Zordon himself, played by Bryan Cranston, was also a Power Ranger in the past. A lot of what remember from the television show is going to make an appearance in the film like Alpha 5, the Zords, Goldar and the mighty Puddies Just today we also got a really good look at Zack’s Black Ranger, played by Ludi Lin, Zord in action. But what about the cameos from past Rangers? Would the film pay homage to the actors that in a sense made this film possible due to the fan base it had created?

Early reports stated that this film was not going to include any cameos from the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers cast members. The cast members themselves had denied any involvement with the film and that was going to be a real shame. But that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. Thanks to Lionsgate’s production notes from the film obtained through comicbook.com we learn that there will be in fact 2 cameos from the original cast. In the notes listed as Cameo Role #1 is none other than the original Green Ranger Jason David Frank. Also listed as Cameo Role #2 is the original Pink Ranger Amy Jo Johnson. What role they will have in the film we can only speculate at this time. I am very curious to know if the other cast members had either declined an offer to be a part of the film or if they were even contacted at all.

Overall the studio seems to be doing a great job at trying to stick to what we love about the Power Rangers all while adding a modern look with their own twist on the Brand. A lot of the images and clips that we have seen have lowered some of my concerns about the film. But we will have to wait and see the completed project to see if in fact this is a successful franchise reboot or not.

What are you most excited about the film? Or what concerns you the most? Chime in below!
