Did you realize that Patrick Wilson was in BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE?
I didn't either. Apparently, the FARGO actor played the voice of the President of the United States, who uttered (if I recall correctly) what I think was a single line of dialogue. While there is precedent for directors to throw in bigger actors into bigger films in random cameos, this one does seem a bit off. With a man of Wilson's filmography, you'd think they can find something more interesting for him to do.
Well, that cameo line may have been a harbinger of things to come. According to Coming Soon, director James Wan may have plans for the character in his AQUAMAN film. At last weekend's WonderCon, the director was asked if we'd be seeing Wilson return as the president. James Wan's response was:
"You just might!"
Both Zack Snyder and James Wan have used Patrick Wilson in their films in the past -- Snyder for WATCHMEN and James Wan for THE CONJURING and INSIDIOUS. As such, it makes sense that Snyder would put him in a cameo role in BvS, but it also makes sense that Wan would expand the role down the line if the story called for it.
It's also no secret that director Zack Snyder has a hand in the Aquaman flick. In an interview with CinemaBlend, Wan said the following.
"Well, I think the story that I would like to tell is still at the end of the day my story. And that’s what’s cool with Zack, is that he’s actually very respectful of that. He’s actually helping me out in some ways with certain things that he’s doing with his [films] so that I can have better groundwork with the standalone AQUAMAN story."
No doubt Snyder will be helping in make sure the film works in the universe, but it's possible that door swings both ways on this. Perhaps Wan knew the president would play a bigger role in his film, and a result, took an opportunity to give Wilson the role in BvS so that there would be a stronger continuity.
We'll have to wait and see. What do you think of Patrick Wilson potentially playing the president in AQUAMAN? Let us know down below!
AQUAMAN hits theaters on July 27, 2018.
