Many fans want to see Iron Man in the new Spider-Man flick. That much seems to be clear. After all, Iron Man is one of the faces of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and since SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING is Spidey's inaugural film, it seems almost customary that he would be the one to show up and usher the webslinger into the MCU.
While there has been no official confirmation, it almost seems to be a foregone conclusion.
But just how far has Marvel planned? Is RDJ on board yet?
In a recent interview on JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE!, Downey Jr. said the following when asked if Tony Stark would be a part of the new Spidey film.:
"Perhaps I will. We don't have a contract yet."
The quote is about 40 seconds into the clip. Check it out below!
But this is by no means any reason to worry. RDJ seems more than game to hop back into the role of Tony Stark for SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING, and while there doesn't seem to be anything concrete, Marvel is a studio that's known for making things happen fast. With each passing year, it seems like Marvel is able to pivot their studio even faster, which has served them amazingly well. Ultimately, it would probably be a surprise at this point if RDJ didn't somehow make his way into the movie.
