Robert Zemeckis Pitched A DC Film To Warner Bros.

Fans recently learned that Matt Reeves’ The Batman will not be connected to DC’s shared universe. And about a week ago it was revealed that DC is planning a Joker origin movie that will not have Jared Leto in the role as the Clown Prince of Crime. This new film be the first under a new, and at this point, untitled DC banner. The new plan by DC will is supposedly going to be a collection off unusual of one off stories.

DC has been listening to pitches from directors on what type of movie they would make and their overall vision. According to Variety, Robert Zemeckis is one of the directors that made a pitch to the studio. This is in keeping with rumors earlier this year that stated that Zemeckis was one of the frontrunners to helm in the impending Flash movie. I have always enjoyed his films and while he wouldn’t be the first director I would suggest, I have to admit the idea of a Zemeckis superhero movie is intriguing.  If there is one thing Zemeckis can do, it’s capture magic. I would think he would be a more natural fit helming a Star Wars movie, but I still think he could do a fine job within a superhero’s world.

After first hearing of DC’s new plans I thought that this may be what finally puts the universe out of its misery. Upon further examination, I think this may actually be the studio’s saving grace. The entire time DC has been trying to emulate Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, and while we will get more DCEU films, this new slate seems like something that could differentiate DC from Marvel.

What DC should do, besides give me a job, is plan the films under the new banner to be born with Flashpoint. Use the film as a way to introduce the new actors playing the characters. I think it would make for less confusion from moderate fans and moviegoers. This is a legitimate way to spin off from the DCEU and make stand alone or loosely connected films while still being connected to DC’s shared universe by a thread, leaving more options available.
