RUMOR: Batman Solo Film Set in Arkham Asylum?

The premise of the new upcoming standalone Batman film is something that’s been speculated on since before Batfleck even graced the screens in BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE. Fans weren’t kind to the the latest offering in the DCEU, but one thing fans seemed to agree on is that Ben Affleck’s take on the Caped Crusader was a quality interpretation — one they’d like to see more of in the future.

Affleck’s directing experience may, in large part, be responsible for the excitement. Fans were curious as to what the ARGO director could bring to the table in a new standalone Batman film. It took a while, but DC and WB have finally confirmed that Affleck would indeed be co-writing and directing a new Batman movie, but there were little to no details as to what the film would be about. All Affleck has said since is that the movie would see a return of Batman’s detective skills. Now, we may have another big detail.

Before we delve into the actual rumor, it’s worth noting that you must take this one with a huge grain of salt. The source for the article, Batman on Film, even says that this rumoris scuttlebutt at best. That being said, if this rumor has even a kernel of truth to it, it could definitely make for a compelling narrative.

According to Batman on Film, the standalone Batman film could involve Batman being locked up in Arkham Asylum. That’s pretty much the only detail they have, but they do mention that this rumor does coincide with rumors that the film would be “CRAMMED WITH BAT VILLAINS.” Once that rumor hit back in May, it was speculated that an Arkham-centric film would be a thing, but nothing else has surfaced since then.

This premise would not only delight comic book and movie fans, but for those who had a chance to play the BATMAN: ARKHAM games, it would be especially sweet. And given some of the bone-crushing hand-to-hand combat we saw from Batfleck in DAWN OF JUSTICE, we could only expect that an Arkham film would feature a lot of similar action.

Of course, the big question that comes out of this rumor is: how did Batman end up in Arkham to begin with? Was he framed by one of his many enemies, or is this more of an infiltrate-and-escape film? Again, take this rumor with a grain of salt, but it would be a great direction for the flick, and would go a long way to make it a more grounded affair than BATMAN v SUPERMAN.

What do you think? Do you like the idea of an Arkham Asylum-based Batman film, or is this a premise WB should hold onto until the second or third film in the franchise? Let us know your thoughts down below!
