UPDATE: EW is now confirming that Finn Jones will indeed play Danny Rand in Marvel‘s IRON FIST for Netflix.
Original story below.
About a year ago, Marvel launched its first series on Netflix with DAREDEVIL. Fans loved the gritty and grounded take on the Man Without Fear, and Marvel went on to kill it with their second series later that year with JESSICA JONES. At this point, us fans are conditioned to get excited by anything related to any of Marvel's Netflix-related properties. We're neck deep in marketing for DAREDEVIL's second season, and couldn't be more excited for the upcoming LUKE CAGE series, which is due out later this year.
One series that seems to attract all the bad kinds of attention is IRON FIST. Now that's not to say that people aren't looking forward to. On the contrary, people seem to be immensely interested on how Marvel will be abel to pull this character off. That being said, it's also been endlessly rumored to be a problem child for the studio, in that they aren't quite sure of how to execute it on a TV budget. There were rumors that they'd canceled the character altogether, and there were also rumors that they'd opted to create a film for Iron Fist instead. Both rumors were completely unsubstantiated and untrue, but they did raise some interest in the character.
The latest rumor about IRON FIST comes in the form of casting. According to a source from That Hashtag Show, actor Finn Jones is currently rumored to play the role of Danny Rand (a.k.a. Iron Fist). Jones is probably best known for playing Loras Tyrell in GAME OF THRONES, and to be honest, that's the only thing I recognize him from. Admittedly, this is a bit disappointing. I'm not saying the actor couldn't be great in the role--he definitely can. My only reservation is that this seemed like the perfect kind of role for an Asian American actor. Racial reservations aside, picking an unknown like this would definitely be the way to go. In true Marvel fashion, it would cement this character in the minds of fans as Danny Rand himself, which is always a good thing.
That Hashtag Show was quick to point out that this is still most definitely in the rumor stages of things, and that they haven't had a chance to confirm the report, so there's no knowing how true this is.
What do you think of this rumor? Do you buy it, and if so, do you think it's a good choice? Let us know in the comments down below!
