Well, if nothing else we can say that 2016 has truly been a formative one for Fox’s Marvel properties. Before the release of Deadpool, it wasn’t clear if making an R-rated comic book movie was something that could actually translate into big box office bucks. Now we know that so long as the studio works with the character in mind, an R-rated hit is indeed quite possible. It’s with that solid mindset that actor Hugh Jackman is set to star one final time as Wolverine in the upcoming R-rated flick, Logan.
This has long been heralded as Jackman’s final portrayal as the beloved comic book character, but that’s never stopped from fans envisioning a future where we could see his Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool on the big screen together. In fact, fans aren’t the only ones fantasizing about the possibilities we could have between these two.
Speaking with EW, Reynolds expressed his interest in the two supers sharing the screen someday.
“I want Deadpool and Wolverine in a movie together. What we’re gonna have to do is convince Hugh. If anything, I’m going to need to do what I can to get my internet friends back on board to help rally another cause down the line.
“Hugh Jackman is one of the best human beings. Part of the reason I want to do a Deadpool/Wolverine movie is not just because I think the two would light the screen on fire but I genuinely love the guy.”
Of course, you can’t really run with this idea without hitting a few brick walls first. Jackman has portrayed Wolverine for over 15 years now, and as such, he is fully ready to move one. With that in mind, perhaps this is a film best done in about 10-15 years, right? However, If you follow that train of thought, you’re then you’re dealing with a Jackman thats well into his 60s. Unless you want to portray him as an Old Man Logan type, then it doesn’t seem like an idea that’s in the cards.
When all said and done, it’s a fun pipe dream, but unless it’s tackled in the next 5-7 years, I don’t quite see this as something that’ll ever really see the light of day.
What do you think of Reynolds’ comments? Could you see Jackman picking up the claws once again, before he’s even gotten the chance to truly put them down? Let us know your thoughts down below!
