Sean Gunn Gives Praise For His Brother’s Script For The Suicide Squad

Everyone by now knows the up and down story of James Gunn and his sacking, and eventual reinstatement in the MCU. But, sometimes in movies, these difficulties can lead to projects that might never have existed without them. Would James Gunn be currently ramping up to start production on The Suicide Squad if he hadn’t been sacked by Marvel/Disney? It seems more likely that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would have been one of the first Phase 4 MCU movies out of the gate.

We are still getting Guardians 3, even if it will be a few years yet, but now we have The Suicide Squad as well. As a fan of Gunn’s work and a fan who wants to see the DCEU kick start itself up the backside, I am excited to see what Gunn can deliver on a different canvas. I just hope the movie is more in line with the quality of Guardians than it is the previous Suicide Squad, which I really didn’t enjoy.

Not that you’d expect him to say any different, but James Gunn’s brother Sean, seems pretty happy with the script. Sean, who of course plays Kraglin as well as the motion capture for Rocket in the MCU, is not known to be in The Suicide Squad, and when asked recently by ComicBook.com he gave nothing away, but he did go on to praise the script from his wrier/director sibling.

“We’ll see,” Gunn says of a role. “I know that he’s [James] very excited about shooting and now that I have read the script for it and I will say nothing other than that it’s really good. And I know that he’s pretty jazzed about it, so I’m definitely excited to hear what happens next. But they start shooting soon.”

I feel confident that The Suicide Squad will play to Gunn’s strengths as a writer and director and I still feel like the first Guardians movie is up there in my top five MCU movies. It’s not very often I get excited about an upcoming DC project, but with Joker, The Suicide Squad and Matt Reeves’ The Batman all coming, I feel like it could be time to get excited by some DC movies again.
