Shazam Has Found Its Billy Batson

Warner Bros. and New Line Cinemas’ upcoming flick Shazam has finally found its Billy Batson. Taking on that role opposite Zachary Levi is none other than Asher Angel.

Angel is by no means a household name. He’s best known for playing Jonah in the Disney Channel original series Andi Mack (which is perhaps best known for its recent groundbreaking coming out episode, wherein one of its characters revealed he was gay).

Angel’s Billy Batson is a boy who gets the ability to transform into adult superhero Shazam (Formerly Captain Marvel before DC lost the rights to that name), played by Zachary Levi, by uttering the magic word “Shazam!”

Recently, it was revealed that Mark Strong was in talks to play the big bad Doctor Sivana, but there’s been no word of him locking down the role just yet.

Shazam is set to be the next film to shoot in the DC Extended Universe, and Lights Out director David F. Sandberg is shooting for an early 2018 filming start date. With the cast quickly falling into place, it’s become more and more believable that they’ll be hitting that date.
