The 4-part Skull Island: The Birth of Kong comic book series has provided fans of the new MonsterVerse more insight into the backstory of Kong.  Part 2 of the series hit stores and Comixology yesterday.

Skull Island: The Birth of Kong takes place twenty years after the events of the film, the story gives a more in depth look at the origin of Kong, Skullcrawlers, and new monsters.  It also shows how Kong grew into a larger and more dangerous monster who is worshipped by the Iwi natives. The first issue was intense and faced paced, which saw the team being attacked from all the different monsters on the island.  The second issue is more methodical and reveals key details about the native tribe that lives on the island, the Iwi, and the origins of Kong became the last of his kind.

Skull Island: The Birth of Kong serves as both a sequel and a prequel to the film.  The comic follows a secret team of Monarch operatives returning to Skull Island to research and find more information behind Kong and the island he protects. In doing so, they unlock an ancient history of monster conflict, witness the primal war between Kong and an otherworldly ecosystem of deadly new creatures, and finally reveal how this lonely god became the last of his kind.

Fans of Kong or the new MonsterVerse will love this comic book as it features new monsters and previously unseen Skull Island locations.  More importantly the comic gives a bigger narrative of how Kong has evolved since the film.
