They must've put something in the water over in Hollywood, because there seem to be a ton of films getting transformed into TV series. So far we have RUSH HOUR, LETHAL WEAPON, TRAINING DAY, along with countless others, and now it looks like Sony is eying to remake the 2010 Angelina Jolie film SALT for the small screen, ScreenDaily reports.
According to the outlet, the studio is pitching the idea around to broadcasters and co-production partners at this week's European Film Market. That's right, you read that correctly. Europe. It's not clear what the intentions are for the series in the US, if any, but from the sounds of it, this seems to be a European-focused pitch.
Diego Suarez, senior vice president of international television production at Sony Pictures Entertainment, said the following regarding the pitch: “We want to bring it to Europe in a completely different way.”
It's not very clear what Suarez means by "different," but given that he was hired last September with the specific task to "develop local and international film and TV content with key international production partners," as Variety puts it, it makes sense that they'd shoot to make this a European production.
Admittedly, this bit of news seems to raise more questions than give answers. Do they plan on changing the setting of the premise entirely? Will this series have any connections to the show, á la LIMITLESS? We'll have to wait and see.
