Spider-Man: Far From Home’s Tony Revolori Originally Auditioned Using Biff’s Lines From Back To The Future

When one thinks of Flash Thompson, one doesn’t necessarily think of a small brown dude. Prior to Spider-Man: Homecoming, he was often portrayed as a typical, jock-type high schooler who bullies Peter Parker. Even on film, we saw this take on him with Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man, and then later in Marc Webb’s Amazing Spider-Man. Who’d’ve thought he’d end up being played by someone like Tony Revolori, a Guatemalan actor who doesn’t look remotely intimidating.

His take on the character is less of a typical bully and more of just an annoying pain in Peter’s side. He, for some reason, thinks Peter is a loser, and goes out of his way to talk crap whenever the opportunity presents itself. It’s a cool approach, and one I’ve enjoyed.

But apparently, Revolori started his journey at Marvel Studios by auditioning for someone else: Peter Parker.

“I probably shouldn’t say this because I’ve signed a bunch of NDAs…I auditioned for Peter Parker years and years ago before Tom was cast as well, when they were trying to find their Spider-Man, and that was an open ethnicity call. They were just looking for everyone, which was really fun. I did terribly in the audition (laughs).”

Once that audition went nowhere, he later auditioned for Peter’s best friend, Ned — three or four times. They then had him audition for who would be Flash. He proceeded to audition simultaneously for Ned and Flash before they said he no longer needed to audition for Ned.

Interestingly enough, during the whole process, they apparently had no character details apart from maybe “bully” as a describer. Revolori then went on to say they pretty much used lines from the film Back to the Future, where he’d use Biff’s lines.

While it does go to prove just how far Marvel Studios goes to keep things secret, as a fan of the comics, Revolori already knew who he was auditioning for.
