Spider-Man: Homecoming – We Won’t Be Hearing About Peter’s Spidey Sense, Here’s Why

“My Spidey Sense is tingling.” I remember hearing and reading that all the time as a kid. It goes without saying that it was a staple of the character, and when it made the hop to the big screen in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man, there’s no way they couldn’t adapt that aspect of the character. However, more than 15 years has passed since then, and in the upcoming film, Spider-Man: Homecoming, they won’t be highlighting that aspect of the character at all.

Speaking with CinemaBlend, Spider-Man: Homecoming director Jon Watts explained why they opted to leave out the Spider Sense in this film.

“I feel like we have seen a lot of Spider Sense in the previous films, so we didn’t really lean into that as hard as they have in the previous films. But I do think it is a really interesting thing to explore.”

Admittedly, when I had a chance to see the film last week (shameless plus, read our review HERE!), I hadn’t even noticed that they left out that aspect of the character. There was so much else going on that there really didn’t seem to be any room for his other abilities. Plus, we have to say, some of the bells and whistles that Stark built into the suit really bolstered Peter Parker’s superhuman capabilities. For better or worse, I didn’t miss it.

However, notice that Watts didn’t say that Peter Parker DIDN’T have it, but rather that they didn’t lean into it. It’s possible that down the line they could work on bringing that skill to the forefront when it suits the plot.
