Star Wars: Daisy Ridley Says She Is Satisfied With Rey’s Arc In The Rise Of Skywalker

There is no doubt who the lead hero is in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, and thus all eyes are on Rey, played by Daisy Ridley as we come closer to the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Clearly Rey and her opposite Kylo Ren, aka Ben Solo and what happens to them, are going to be the key themes that drive the emotional context of the movie forward. Daisy Ridley recently spoke with Screen Rant and told them she was satisfied with how things end in the movie for Rey.

“Yes. Fully. I think doing it, even doing the finals scenes I have, be them alone, be them with other people, from a personal experience, I remember feeling really filled up with a really satisfying emotion of like, it just felt really right, and watching it I think, it’s not like a big showy ending, it’s just a beautiful, emotion thing that I think people will carry with them.”

This echoes previous comments Ridley made when discussing how much she enjoyed working on this movie with Marie Claire a few weeks ago.

“It’s the first time I’ve filmed more confident because I feel like there was nothing else I could’ve done. The third one for me was the best. It’s a big film for everyone. I did all of the emotions: I did frowns, I did smiles, it was the sort of biggest breadth, and I think that’s also why I had such a good time, because I got to do so much shit – like, physically, emotionally – and I got to work with so many people.”

For me, I think Ridley (performance-wise) has been really good, though I do think her character hasn’t necessarily been the best written in the two previous Star Wars sequel trilogy movies. I agree with some fans that Rey has just ‘sort of learned’ how to do things with the Force as she went along, for me indicating that her power level/potential is through the roof on scale unseen since Anakin Skywalker himself. Or, alternatively, that none of the filmmakers so far have seen any value in having her struggle to learn to control her abilities, which is a writing decision I disagree with.

I hope with yesterday’s news (related section below) about Rey getting training from Leia in this movie, that we may at least get a viable reason for her to be more powerful and more confident in her abilities for the final go-around. Though, as I said in that article, for me Leia should have begun training Rey a way back in The Force Awakens.

I guess we will all get to offer our own opinions on Rey’s arc and how she fared in the finale in less than two weeks’ time. In the meantime, let us know what you think of Ridley’s comments below in the usual spot.
