Star Wars: Don’t Expect To Learn Much About Snoke In The Last Jedi

Fans may be disappointed by this news, but it looks like mystery surrounding Supreme Leader Snoke will not be alleviated in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The identity of Kylo Ren’s mentor is one of the biggest questions of The Force Awakens, perhaps second only to Rey’s lineage. David Kamp, who brought us the spectacular Vanity Fair piece (which we’ve been picking part for the past few days), participated in a Reddit AMA yesterday. In said AMA, he revealed he was told by The Last Jedi director, Rian Johnson, that the Supreme Leader is not a major focus of the film.

“I asked Rian Johnson about Snoke—Who/what is he?—and Rian was fairly up front in saying that Snoke is not a character he particularly gets into in TLJ,” said Kamp.

Simply because Rian Johnson didn’t focus on Snoke for Episode 8, doesn’t necessarily mean Snoke won’t play a huge role in the trilogy itself, the reveal of Snoke’s identity could be a huge part of the closing film of trilogy coming in 2019.

Fan theories on Snoke’s identity have the character being everyone from Darth Plagueis to an old mangled version of Anakin Skywalker’s ghost. One of the more ridiculous theories has Snoke’s true identity to be that of Princess Leia, and the one I find interesting, is that Snoke is actually Mace Windu.

It is always possible that Snoke’s identity doesn’t weigh as heavily on the film’s plot as fans have suspected, assuming that is the case, why would Disney hide who he is? Taking into account an excerpt from the novelization of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, that has Supreme Leader Snoke telling Kylo Ren he has watched the Galactic Empire rise and fall, lets us know that Snoke has been around since the time of the original trilogy, if not long before. Combine this with Snoke’s appearance, and the fact that Kylo Ren’s lightsaber is of an ancient design, I am inclined to believe that Snoke is the last Jedi, The last of a very old and much different Jedi order.

Who do you think Supreme Leader Snoke is?
