STAR WARS Episode VIII: How Finn Recovers From His FORCE AWAKENS Injuries

Disclaimer: This post contains spoilers from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and also contains potential spoilers for next year’s Star Wars Episode VIII. Read at your own discretion.

When last we saw Finn in last year’s mega-hit, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, he’d wielded a lightsaber. While he did an okay job of holding his own against the young Sith wannabe, Kylo Ren, it wasn’t quite enough. Kylo gave him a couple slashes (one of which looked as though it caused some pretty bad damage to his spinal cord) and took him down for the rest of the film. Before the credits rolled, we saw him asleep in a hospital bed, receiving a final, friend-zoning kiss from Rey before she headed off in search of Luke Skywalker.

It was never clear what his fate was. Sure, he was alive, but would his injuries continue on to Star Wars Episode VIII, or would he be healed and ready for more dangerous adventure by next film?

We may have an answer now, thanks to a new report from the intrepid sleuths over at Making Star Wars. According to the site, Finn is placed in what they call a “bacta suit.” This suit is bubble-like in appearance, and is used to heal his injuries. In the report, it’s compared to this jacket, but is said to look clearer:

There will then be a sequence in the flick where Finn is cut from the suit, supposedly feeling better than ever before!

The outlet goes on to say that Finn then proceeds to embark “on a journey that is sure to make him a ‘big deal’ in the Resistance.” There are no details as of now as to what that journey will entail, but it’s clear that, as Luke and Han went on their separate journeys in The Empire Strikes Back, so too will Finn and Rey in their second film.

While the details regarding the suit are kind of cool, it’s not a huge surprise that this universe has the ability to reverse spinal cord injuries. This is the same universe that gave Luke a hand and Darth Vader a body, after all. I’m more interested to see what the actual journey Finn’s headed on has to do with, especially since it’s supposedly a huge profile one.

What do you think of this news? What kind of journey do you expect to see Finn go on? Let us know in the comments down below!
