Grand Admiral Thrawn is a character that many hardcore Star Wars fans hold close to their hearts. Back in the 1990s, writer Timothy Zahn wrote the retro-actively named Thrawn Trilogy, which introduced the character who had to pick up the pieces of the Empire after Emperor Palpatine was killed in Return of the Jedi. This was no easy task, and the man faced with it was none other than Grand Admiral Thrawn -- someone who rose through the ranks based on his skill alone, and who, for all intents and purposes, was a bit of an underdog because of his race.
Thrawn was a brilliant strategist, and unlike the Emperor, didn't gain followers through fear, which is something that made them that much more threatening to the Rebellion.
Thrawn grew to be a beloved character among fandom, and you could understand their anger when Disney swooped in, bought Lucasfilm, and essentially rendered that book trilogy as moot. No longer was Thrawn a part of the Star Wars canon, and all fans could do was hope that someday, Disney would use him to come capacity.
More recently, Disney announced that not only would fans be treated to another Timothy Zahn book entitled Thrawn, but that the Grand Admiral would be showing up in the animated series Star Wars Rebels.
While we saw a couple shots of the character in a previous trailer, we now have a promo that fully teases Thrawn's entry into the series.
