Star Wars: The Last Jedi – Laura Dern Shares Embarrassing Story From The Set

Star Wars has a tendency to bring out the most childlike aspects out of everyone. Most everyone who’d worked on it in the past couple decades had been exposed to it as kids, so they really do tend to bring out a unique sense of giddiness for all involved.

This extended even to actress Laura Dern. Dern has been confirmed for the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi film for months, but her actual role has been shrouded in secret. While she couldn’t share a whole lot about the film, she did reveal one embarrassing tale.

“I did have the greatest experience of my life. I felt like I was seven years old again. Our director Rian Johnson keeps telling this very embarrassing story about when he got in the editing room — I do have weaponry in the film — he literally heard me making sounds, because I’d only done it in my room in childhood. And on camera, you hear me going, ‘Pew! Pew Pew!’ It’s so embarrassing! But you know, it’s Star Wars!”

Dern isn’t alone. During the filming of Star Wars: Episode I, Ewan McGregor famously kept making lightsaber sounds during his fights, despite director George Lucas assuring him that they added those sound effects in post. She’s definitely in good company.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15, 2017.
