We are all still mourning the loss of the late, great Carrie Fisher. Though she'll always be royalty to me, in the upcoming The Last Jedi, her final Star Wars film, Fischer returns as now General Leia Organa, leader of the Resistance. As such, she shares at least one scene with Poe Dameron, played by Oscar Isaac in the upcoming film, as Generals and X-Wing Squadron Leaders have to work together. Though it also sounds like they don't always agree...
Isaac recently opened up about his experience with Carrie Fisher on the set of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Talking to Business Insider, he touched on an "intense" scene the pair shared:
“It was basically my first day [on set] and we did about 25 takes total. Half of them were on me and half of them were on her. I can’t give anything away but there was a scene where there was some physicality there and it was shot just over and over and over. She relished the physicality of it, let me just say. It was pretty intense. It will be funny to see what they cut together based on that.”
Isaac also discussed her sense of humor on the set:
“At every moment she would just wander over with her Coke — she was constantly drinking Coca-Cola — and find a way to undercut the situation or to cut through something to make me laugh."
That's right, it sounds like Leia is feisty to the end. It will be interesting to see what has been done to adapt the film in a way that removes Leia from the story by Episode IX, if she was even scripted to survive the film initially. After all, Kylo Ren was a habit of murdering a lot of people, even his father. Fischer will certainly be missed, but it's good to know Leia has been done justice in her final appearance.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15, 2017.
