Stranger Things: Executive Producer Shawn Levy Talks Season 2

As the countdown continues for Season 2 of Netflix’s Stranger Things, many fans are wondering what’s in store for Will, Mikey, Lucas, Dustin and most of all, Eleven.

Fans of the show’s first season fell in love with the nostalgia that the show brought forth, mixing everything that was great about the movies of the ’80s together in one totally rad, totally binge-worthy show.  Sprinkled with the tone and look of classics such as The Goonies, E.T., and Poltergeist, Stranger Things brought many viewers back to a simpler time in cinema, one where movies seemed to mean more to us, when they were a treat and a complete experience.

While the Season 2 trailer didn’t offer us much on an overall storyline, it did indicate that the upcoming season of Stranger Things is shaping up to outdo the first season by be filled with things that are darker, scarier, and perhaps even…stranger.

Director and executive producer of the series, Shawn Levy, recently spoke with Mashable about the challenges the team faced with making Season 2.

“As the episodes were written by the Duffers, they realized that there was too much story for nine episodes. So it forced us to be judicious in which stories we tell this season.”

While Levy acknowledges that the story elements are one of the driving force behind the show,  he points out that the characters are truly at the heart of it.

“As much density of story as our show has, we have to service the characters — and the moments and relationships between characters — above everything.”

It is true that characters are one of the key factors that make the show great. And while fans fell in love with the kids they met in the first season, according to Levy fans are going to come to know someone they haven’t even really met yet a whole lot better.

“Will Byers is very much at the center of Season 2,” said Levy.

Will was missing throughout all of Season 1, now that he has been rescued we will get to see what he adds to the team. Fans will also be looking to find any connection Will may have to Eleven, and/or the Demogorgon.

All in all it seems like the show makers an fans alike are ready for some more good ol’ 80’s nostalgia. Cue the creepy music!

All nine episodes of Stranger Things Season 2 will be on Netflix October 31, 2017.
