SUICIDE SQUAD has officially had its premiere as well as a whole slew of press screenings. So far, the critical reception appears to be mostly negative, but regardless, director David Ayer was a ball of enthusiasm at the world premiere — so much so that Ayer yelled out the words “F*** Marvel” while on stage. Of course, the internet went nuts with this one. You can check out the moment below!

It didn’t take long for Ayer to regret getting caught up in this momentary excitement. Less than an hour and a half later, David Ayer tweeted the following:
Sorry about getting caught up in the moment and saying f*ck Marvel. Someone said it. I echoed. Not cool. Respect for my brother filmmakers.

It would be easy for fans to jump on the DC hate train after a quote like this. After all, many comic book fans like both Marvel and DC (as they should), and it’s this type of behavior that seems to breed the online hate that the fanboy culture doesn’t really need (as there is already plenty of it). That being said, this is a quote that seems to have been said in good fun. If you listen to Ayer’s statement, there doesn’t appear to be a hint of malice in his voice, but rather pure excitement over SUICIDE SQUAD, which he is undoubtedly proud of.
What will fans make of the film? We’ll have to wait and see. But if the critical reception so far is any indication, things aren’t looking too hot for the picture.
SUICIDE SQUAD hits theaters on August 5, 2016.
