‘SUICIDE SQUAD’s Reshoots to Last Three Weeks

Reshoots have become a typical part of Hollywood blockbusters. Where they used to be a red flag of a bad film, they are now used to polish the rough edges in an otherwise solid film. Marvel has used them extensively in their films, and even a film like AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON had two weeks of reshoots.

Now, rumor has it that not only is WB hard at work with some reshoots on their upcoming DC film SUICIDE SQUAD, but that they are looking to lighten the tone of the film so that it’s more fun for mainstream audiences to watch. Granted, it’s almost impossible to tell, based on a schedule alone, but we are now hearing that the film is facing three weeks of reshoots.

So what does this mean? Well, it’s hard to say. As I mentioned above, AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON featured two weeks of reshoots, and that was mostly to make sure that the action was as good as it needed to be. If we’re using that as our barometer, I’d say the reshoots for SUICIDE SQUAD are likely to bepretty substantial, as it’s 50% longer than an already-subsantial two weeks. But at the same time, I don’t think it’ll be on the same level as, say, WORLD WAR Z  or FANTASTIC FOUR

In short, I’d say this is long enough to substantiate the report from Birth Movies Death that the reshoots will be used to lighten the tone. Don’t expect any big plot changes or action set pieces, but rather smaller moments character interactions. Bretth Schulte, the man who reported on his Twitter that the shoots would take three weeks even mentioned that most of the stuff would take place on a sound stage, so if this is the case, I’d say it bodes well.

The synopsis for the film is as follows:

“It feels good to be bad…Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?”
