SUPER BOWL: What Killer Movie Trailers Should We Expect During This Year’s Game?

Even though I will always be a Dallas Cowboys’ fan at heart (don’t hate — we have had a rough run for 20+ years), my hometown is actually Atlanta, Georgia and I was ecstatic when the Falcons beat the Packers, pulling out the Aaron Rodgers thorn I have had in my side for a number of years. But, as much as I would like to give you more of my hot sports opinions, we at LRM are an entertainment site, and today we shall take a look at another great pastime during February each year; Superbowl commercials that feature upcoming films.

Much like the decline of the ancient Roman gladiators, the ratings for the NFL have recently gone into a nosedive as well. However, this has not yet affected the price of advertising too much for the much beloved Superbowl commercials, and even though viewership last year was down around 6% from 2014, we are still talking multiple millions for a 30-sec spot. Some of the big movie studios have gotten in on this, as they usually do, and we will likely get some awesome trailers in this year’s Superbowl commercials. While the studios keep the advertisements close to the vest, there are speculations and rumors afoot about which films will be featured.

Disney

Guardians Of The Galaxy 2
Of course, this will be my climax to the Superbowl if a new trailer is premiered, and I am counting down the days until Star-Lord is on the bigscreen again with Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Baby-Groot. They may simply rerun the old trailer, but I highly doubt it and we should all expect to see more of Peter Quill and likely Mantis, as well, considering she is rumored to be in Ininity War which will be released a year after GOTG2.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
This is damn near guaranteed. With Javier Bardem joining the cast why would Disney not want this franchise out to set sail? If I were a betting man, which I am and am still trying to pay off the Cowboys loss, I would say that this would be the first gamble to have a brand new trailer.

Fox

We have a couple of choices here and I will likely go with the new Aliens movie, although Logan is a prime suspect I think that there has been enough internet coverage on Logan that Alien: Covenant will make a much bigger splash. This could be a new trailer, but I highly doubt it since the most recent one is not that old and will probably just be a rehash. Alien features Michael Fassbeder, James Franco, Danny McBride, Noomi Rapace, and Dr. Manhattan himself; Billy Crudup.

Paramount

Give me Baywatch here and I can tell you now that I will never see this movie on the bigscreen but I know many that will. In all honesty, it may have the biggest draw for any movie mentioned if we put the total demographics into account. They also have Transformers: The Last Knight available, but I am not sure it did that much for them in previous years.

WB

OUT! However, their promotional partners could get involved.

What film are you most excited to see in the Superbowl ads: GOTG2, Pirates, Alien: Covenant, Logan, Transformers, or other?
