Taika Waititi To Direct Thor 4, Akira Put On Hold

Get “Immigrant Song” crankin’, folks, because Taika Waititi is coming back for seconds over at in the MCU. Waititi made a splash back in 2017 with the action-packed, galaxy-hopping film Thor: Ragnarok, which help inject some much-needed energy into the tired franchise and gave the character of Thor a second chance on the big screen.

In the years since then, both Marvel Studios and Waititi have expressed happiness with their collaboration, as well as a willingness to work together again in the future, but we never knew for sure if a fourth Thor film would be in the works. Now, it sounds like it is!

According to THR, Waititi has just dotted all four “i”s and crossed all three “t”s on a deal to pen and direct a follow-up to Ragnarok.

Of course, this is amazing news, but there is a price to pay, and that price comes in the form of the manga adaptation Akira, which recently put out a casting call. The outlet states that due to conflicting production dates, Akira needed to be put on hold indefinitely. From the sound of it, there were also some script concerns that, while mostly addressed, seemed to be a factoring his taking on Thor 4.

Another great piece of news that is kind of a given is that Chris Hemsworth is expected to return as the god of thunder, who we’ve seen go to hell and back (literally), losing all his friends and family along the way. I think most fans are ready to see his journey continue.
