The Batman: Is Josh Gad Teasing His Role As A Classic Villain?

The DC Extended Universe seems to be one big amorphous blob of questions at this point. A few months back, The Batman seemed to be on track with Ben Affleck as the director, a script nearing completion, and Deathstroke set as the main villain. It didn’t take long for that to unwind. Affleck stepped down as director, leaving the script in limbo, and putting into question whether or not Deathstroke would still be the villain.

In the time since then, War for the Planet of the Apes helmer Matt Reeves has stepped in as director, and from all the scuttlebutt we’ve heard, he has a decent amount of creative control over the direction of The Batman. With that in mind, it would come as no surprise if we were tofind out that Manganiello wouldn’t be making his debut as Deathstroke in the flick.

So who else would Matt Reeves have the Caped Crusader take on? We may have our first hint. Actor Josh Gad recently took to Twitter to post a very strange and unprompted drawing of the Penguin.

Sadly, no context was given to this photo. We don’t know if Josh Gad is lobbying for the role, if he’s teasing it, or if he’s just being goofy. We’ve been burned before on reading into photos in the past, but since it’s what we take pride in, we may as well continue doing it, if nothing else than to stir up conversation. It’s impossible to overlook the fact that he chose a panel that says “make me!” on it, which implies that he’s looking to have WB “make him” the Penguin.

But is Gad a fit for the role? He may have the physique to play the character, but based on his track record, I’m not sure he’d be the best one to take on the role. Call me shallow, but his roles in the past have painted too good natured of a guy to make this work. That being said, if they split the difference between a more traditional portrayal of him, and the portrayal of Penguin in Gotham, then maybe that’s something I can see Gad pull off.

What do you think? Would you like to see Gad play the Penguin, and do you think this photo implies anything? Let us know in the comments down below!
