The Cat And The Hat And More Dr. Seuss Stories Coming From Warner Bros. Animation

The Cat in the Hat is returning, with no Mike Myers in sight!

Deadline reports that Warner Animation Group has partnered with Dr. Seuss Enterprises Lp to produce multiple features based on the classic stories and characters created by Dr. Seuss. (His name is actually Theodor Geisel, by the way… sorry to ruin your day…)

Previously, Universal produced the aforementioned live-action Cat in the Hat film starring Mike Myers, and distributed Ron Howard’s terrible live-action How the Grinch Stole Christmas starring Jim Carrey (fun fact there, Whoville is still constructed, but decaying, on the Universal backlot in Universal City, CA). Horton Hears A Who, the 2008 release, was from the creators of Ice Age, who eventually formed Illumination Entertainment. Illumination Entertainment, associated with Universal, is also releasing an animated film called The Grinch this November, starring the perfectly cast Benedict Cumberbatch.

But after that, it’s Warner Bros Animation’s turn to play with Dr. Seuss! And The Cat in the Hat is their first stop on the Seuss train!

Warner Bros Animation has been making a splash lately with their Lego Movies, and the animation studio has Smallfoot starring Zendaya and Channing Tatum set for a September 28, 2018 release date, as well as The Lego Movie sequel and S.C.O.O.B. in the works for 2019 and 2020. Adding Dr. Seuss’s characters to their stable only increases the profitability of the studio, should the films be handled with care.
