The Defenders: Elodie Yung Think’s Elektra’s Story Is Unfinished [SPOILERS]

Disclaimer: This post contains spoilers for The Defenders.

The recently-released first season of The Defenders saw the return of Matt Murdock’s former love interest Elektra. When last he saw her, she died in his arms on a rooftop during the final confrontation with the Hand, and when audiences last saw her, she got put into a giant metal bowl by members of the Hand. Based on this, it was clear that she would be coming back.

But would her role in The Defenders be her last? That was the question. At the end of that series, her and Matt Murdock fought underground as everything caved in around them. We only saw Matt Murdock survive this, though if the show’s comic book source material is any indication, we pretty much know that Elektra will have survived it as well.

Speaking with THR, actress Elodie Yung expressed her thoughts on Elektra’s journey.

“I really like Elektra. It just feels unfinished. She’s done all of that, and now what? Where is she? And he’s alive. So I’m hoping their paths will cross again. I want to know where she lives and what she does and if she’s enjoying life and all of that. (Laughs.) But I don’t know what’s next for her yet — or if it’s the end.

“She’s such a great female character. She’s so crazy and strong and she has so many flaws. You kind of feel for her. I do feel for her. It’s not easy to be who she is. There’s humanity in there. It would be interesting to explore that again, especially after what just happened. But we’ll have to see what Marvel will do with her. I have no clue.”

Indeed from an actor’s perspective, I can see where she’s coming from (yes, even apart from the whole “I want work” aspect). While Elektra did come into her own at the end, it still felt very much like she had some growth left, either for good or for evil. It is interesting (and a bit disappointing) that Elektra has already died and been resurrected, all without Bullseye’s involvement. It would be cool if they could include her in an upcoming season with Bullseye, but will he be involved at any point down the line?

From what we can tell, the next season’s baddie will be Kingpin, based on them basing things on the Born Again storyline in the comics, but we wouldn’t put it past Marvel Television to include both her and Bullseye in the mix in some way. We shall have to wait and see.
