The DC Extended Universe has had a bit of a rocky start. MAN OF STEEL was mixed and BATMAN v SUPERMAN was mostly negative. Following that reception, the original director for THE FLASH standalone flick, Seth Grahame-Smith, pulled out, citing creative differences. This seemed to indicate a lot of bad stuff going on behind the scenes over at WB, but if the marketing for SUICIDE SQUAD, the recent JUSTICE LEAGUE set visit impressions, and the hiring of Rick Famuyiwa as director on THE FLASH are any indication, they seem to be course-correcting fairly well over there.
Ezra Miller was already grandfathered in as Barry Allen from BATMAN v SUPERMAN, so there’s been no anticipation on who would be the lead, but pretty much every other role in the cast is up for grabs. Well, it sounds like WB is zeroing in on the role of Iris West, love interest of Barry, as well as aunt of the third flash, Wally West (though in the ARROW-verse, Iris Wally’s sister, but that’s neither here nor there). Variety is now reporting that DOPE actress Kiersey Clemons in the top choice for the role.
This doesn’t seem like too much of a shocker, as she worked with Famuyiwa on DOPE, and as we all know, directors do tend to gravitate towards talent they’ve worked with in the past. Clemons isn’t the only actress up for consideration. According to THR writer Borys Kit, other talent up for the role are Rita Ora (FIFTY SHADES OF GREY) and Lucy Boynton (SING STREET), pictured below.
Right now, of the three, Clemons is the one that stands out to me most, but admittedly, that’s just because she’s the only one I’ve seen in action. Which of these three stands out to you? Let us know your thoughts down below!
THE FLASH hits theaters on March 16, 2018.
