THE HUNTSMAN: WINTER’S WAR Looks Like Good, Dumb Fun in New Trailer

I know I’m not the first one to say that the film SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN was something of a disappointment. While I wouldn’t call the film “bad,” I would say that it was the worst kind of mediocrity, in that it was too good to make fun off, but not good enough to actually enjoy. All in all, the story and characters were just boring. Before long, I found myself looking at my watch so I could get on with my day.

Needless to say, when I learned there would be a sequel, I wasn’t too thrilled. Then the first trailer came along and impressed me. It didn’t necessarily convince me that it would be “good,” but entertaining? There was a possibility there. And apparently the first trailer impressed me so much that when I found out about a new trailer released, I eagerly went consumed it quickly.

Check it out below!

Now I have to say, after watching this trailer, that this movie looks like good, dumb fun. The action looks great, the cast is amazing, and the visual effects are a visual joy, even if they’re super CG-looking. That being said, I can’t help but be incredibly confused as to when this takes place. While I know this is a prequel, I don’t quite know where the first film would fit into this. How soon after the events shown here will the whole Snow White plot line take place, and what befalls these characters in this film to make them nonexistent in that one? Admittedly, these are questions I’m not expecting to get answered, and that’s okay. If the movie manages to deliver the entertainment promised, then I’ll be happy. Plot be damned.

Here is the synopsis for the film:

“Discover the story that came before Snow White in THE HUNTSMAN: WINTER’S WAR.  Chris Hemsworth and Oscar winner Charlize Theron return to their roles from Snow White and the Huntsman, joined by Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain.

Theron stars as evil Queen Ravenna, who betrays her good sister Freya (Blunt) with an unforgivable act, freezing Freya’s heart to love and unleashing in her an icy power she never knew she possessed.  Retreating to a kingdom far to the north, Freya raises an army of Huntsmen as her protectors, with the only rule that no two of them should ever fall in love.

As a war for domination escalates between the two queens, the hero standing between them is Freya’s most elite Huntsman, Eric (Hemsworth).  Alongside fellow warrior Sara (Chastain)—the only woman who has ever captured his heart—Eric must help Freya vanquish her sister…or Ravenna’s wickedness will rule for eternity.”
