The Matrix 4 May Begin Production Next Month In San Francisco

Hollywood continues to astound me. You can have films that are stuck in development hell for decades at a time, only for everything to start coming together over the course of a few short months. That certainly seems to the case for The Matrix 4. After years of constant sequel and reboot rumors, we’re finally getting a true sequel to the long-dormant franchise.

Now, according to a casting call from Dwyer Casting, which is looking for extras in San Francisco, California from February 5 to March 1. This will all be in service of a film called Project Ice Cream — Project Ice Cream being the working title for The Matrix 4. The dates would seemingly indicate that production will be underway within that February and March timeframe.

The Matrix 4 will see the return of franchise co-director Lana Wachowski, along with franchise returners Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Jada Pinkett Smith. It will also see newcomers Jessica Henwick, Neill Patrick Harris, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II join them in what looks to be an ambitious continuation.

While I’d normally be wary of this film from any other filmmaker, I think Wachowski has proven that she isn’t exactly content to do the most standard and accessible version of a follow-up. So let’s hope she has some unique ideas.
