The Mummy Tops The List For TV Ad Spending

After the amazing weekend that Warner Bros. Pictures had with Wonder Woman, the pressure is now on Universal Studios as The Mummy is set to hit theaters nationwide. This film has a lot riding on it as it kicks off their Dark Universe. It is directed by Alex Kurtzman, and features Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis and Russell Crowe. The big question will be if The Mummy will be able to take out Wonder Woman‘s number one spot at the box office? It looks like Universal Studios is not taking any chances.

Thanks to Variety and iSpot.tv Universal Studios has the top spot in spending for TV advertising this week. The ads which are airing across 49 networks has an estimated media value of $7.83 million dollars. These figures are based on estimates generated from May 29 to June 4. In second place to The Mummy is Paramount Pictures Transformers: The Last Knight with an estimated media value of $5.99 million across 33 networks. The ads for The Mummy are targeting a broad audience having placed ads in the NBA Finals, World of Dance and America’s Got Talent.

Here are the top 5 spenders for the week:
1. The Mummy — $7.83 million
2. Transformers: The Last Knight — $5.99 million
3. Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie — $4.72 million
4. Cars 3 — $4.53 million
5. Wonder Woman — $3.64 million

We’ll see in the next few hours how critics respond to The Mummy. This will have a huge impact on their numbers for the weekend as bad reviews could really hurt not only this movie, but the Dark Universe that already has so many films planned out. With so many great reviews for Wonder Woman from fans and critics, it will be interesting to see how much the drop off will be from the first to second weekend, and if it will be able to continue as the number one film in the country, or if that title will be passed on to The Mummy. Are you excited to see The Mummy this weekend? Or is this a pass for you? Chime in below!

The Mummy opens in theaters June 9th, 2017.
