The New Dora Pokes Fun At The Original Series

Dora the Explorer may have been way past my heyday in consuming kid content, but I am more than aware of the show’s existence and overall format. The new trailer for Dora and the Lost City of Gold actually takes that idea and plays with it in a fun way. The context isn’t exactly clear, but in it, we see a couple of kids that look a lot like Dora and Diego from the cartoon pretty much acting like their animated counterparts…only for the trailer to say if that’s the Dora we know, that we don’t know her at all.

Most of the rest of the trailer is pretty forgettable (and it ends on some pretty cringey toilet humor at the end), but one part that did catch my eye is Danny Trejo as Dora’s monkey. More than anything in the world, I want the unaltered screams from Trejo to be released online. Please.

Below is the official synopsis for Dora and the Lost City of Gold:

“Having spent most of her life exploring the jungle with her parents, nothing could prepare Dora (Isabela Moner) for her most dangerous adventure ever – High School. Always the explorer, Dora quickly finds herself leading Boots (her best friend, a monkey), Diego (Jeffrey Wahlberg), a mysterious jungle inhabitant (Eugenio Derbez), and a rag tag group of teens on a live-action adventure to save her parents (Eva Longoria, Michael Peña) and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost city of gold.”
