We learned almost 2 years ago now that The Watchmen, created by Alan Moore, will be in continuity in the DC world after they purchased Charlton Comics. And over the past years we have been given hints to their involvement in the shaping of Rebirth.

We have the supposedly mysterious Mr. Oz which to most people is clearly Adrian Veidt, aka Ozymandias the main Villain from Watchmen, seemingly behind the scenes watching his typical “wall of monitor” setup and manipulating the events in the DC comic world. The first hint was given when a homeless woman, referred to as Miss Janet, has either a brand or a tattoo on her wrist that looked strikingly similar to the symbol on the perfume bottle Nostalgia, which was shown in the original Watchmen comic.

Additionally, we have seen the possible involvement of Dr. Manhattan, as he disintegrated Pandora in almost the exact same fashion that he dispatched Rorschach at the end of Watchen. Both Metron and Owlman were also demolished in a flame of blue light as well. It is possible they were actually transported, if this was indeed Dr. Manhattan, and they could all be imprisoned along with Tim Drake in Adrian’s fortress of doom.

Lets not forget the Comedian’s “human bean juice” splattered smiley faced button that Batman is investigating or the taking of Doomsday, likely by Dr. Manhattan as well, or Wally’s return to the timeline. It does appear with all of this that Mr. Oz is responsible in reshaping the post Flashpoint timeline.

Well in April we may finally at least start to get some answers, as today it was announced that a 4-part DC: Rebirth event called The Button will feature Batman and Flash, and it will involve the Comedian’s pin-button he wore when Adrian killed him. It will run through Batman and Flash #21-22, and will feature four Lenticular covers. (Think of these as a cover that looks in motion, much like the old-school holograms but highly updated.)
