THE WOLVERINE III: Hugh Jackman Offers Update, Teases Something Within The Next Week

While X-Men: Apocalypse may have closed out the second Bryan Singer trilogy with a bit of a wimper, fans have every right to expect that the currently-untitled Wolverine III won’t do the same. Wolverine is a character who has always been more fit for an R-rating than a PG-13 one, and as such, with this third flick, it’s fitting that the studio would allow actor Hugh Jackman and director James Mangold go all out should the story require it.

For a film that comes out in just five months, however, we know surprisingly little about it — especially a comic book film. Well, I can imagine that won’t be the case for very long. The summer is officially over, and while this marks the start of the upcoming Oscar season for film fans, it’s not nearly as crowded on the blockbuster front as it was a couple months back.

As such, it’s only a matter of time before we see the first teaser for The Wolverine III, and if we can trust Jackman on the subject, we can perhaps expect it sooner rather than later.

Speaking with ET Online, the Australian actor gave us an update on the project, as well as an idea of when we can expect something from the movie — though he didn’t specify what this “something” would entail.

“We finished shooting. I just saw [director] Jim Mangold today. He’s editing away, and finishing that. I’m very, very excited about it. Theres’ going to be some stuff coming out in the next week or so, that’s all I’ll say. I’m really trying, dude. I’m notgood. I’m the kind of person who tells everybody everything.

“Basically it’s going to be very different. Very different in tone, and hopefully different to anything we’ve done. [He’s older], which is a good thing (laughs). Easier for me to play.”

The easy assumption is that we’ll be getting a teaser for the film. This would allow the idea to get planted in fans’ minds who may have forgotten about the upcoming threequel, and give hardcore Wolverine fans a small taste while the rest of the big budget films through December hit theaters (films like Doctor Strange, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and Assassin’s Creed). Around the time those were finishing up would be the optimal time to drop a full trailer before leading up to the climax of the campaign.

Then again, for all we know, we could just be getting a title and/or a movie poster — and either of those would be just as welcome, seeing as we don’t even know the title yet.

What do you think we’ll be seeing in the next week? What do you think the title will be? Will it be the previously-rumored title, Wolverine: Weapon X, or something else altogether? Let us know your thoughts down below!

The Wolverine III hits theaters on March 3, 2017.
