We’ve seen Lighting McQueen, voiced by Owen Wilson, win his first Piston Cup in the first Cars film, then we saw him race around Europe in the World Gran Prix in Cars 2. Now we have come full circle, as the next generation of racers seem to be imposing their will and winning races. Yesterday, Disney released the third trailer for Cars 3 which is set to be released on June 16th, 2017.
Check it out below.
Looks like McQueen going to have to deal with the idea of retiring. The voices around him are pressuring him to call it a career, which of course McQueen is not happy about. The pressure is mounting as a new race car named Jackson Storm, voiced by Armie Hammer, is crushing speed records and taking the sport by storm. Meanwhile, in one of McQueen’s latest races he has wrecked and uncertain if he will race again. But all is not lost as he gets some help from a racing tech named Cruz Ramirez, voiced by Cristela Alonzo, as he is looking for one last shot to race and show the world that it’s more than just about speed.
The trailer is pretty dramatic, it feels like this may be the end of Lightning McQueen’s racing career. It’s insane to think that it’s been eleven years since we first met McQueen in 2006. We can definitely see quite a different McQueen from the first film, even Cruz says it in the trailer “I used to watch you on TV flying through the air, you seemed so fearless”. So it looks like Cruz will attempt to have McQueen regain his confidence to be able to take on the better racers like Jackson Storm.
Of course no Pixar film is complete without a couple of laughs which we are sure to get from McQueen’s good friend Mater, voiced by Larry “The Cable Guy”. Not to mention the return of McQueen’s other friends like Luigi, voiced by Tony Shalhoub, Sally, voiced by Bonnie Hunt and others. This has a making of a good conclusion to the Cars series. It will be interesting to see how the end it to either set up another car or just ride off into the sunset. How would you like it to end?
