Tom Hardy has had a prolific acting career, and he usually has quite a few projects that he is working on. You may first remember him in his first role from HBO's Band of Brothers where he played John A. Janovec for 2 episodes, from his The Dark Knight Rises role as Bane, Mad Max: Fury Road, or his most recent movie role in The Revenant. This is what is on his plate now:
- Star Wars: Episode VIII (post-production) / Stormtrooper - rumored (This interests me highly)
- Dunkirk / Farrier (post-production)
- Fonzo / Al Capone (pre-production)
- Mad Max: The Wasteland / Max Rockatansky (announced)
- Triple Frontier (pre-production) - rumored
In addition to these films, he is also starring in a FX network series called Taboo that he created with his father, and the synopsis for episode 1 reads:
After being presumed dead, adventurer James Delaney reappears in London seeking vengeance for the death of his father. He inherits the family's shipping empire threatening the ambitions of his half-sister and the East India Company.
Even with all this going on, Hardy is still looking to the future, and in an interview with Marlow Stern from The Daily Beast he commented on his interest in portraying the mega-franchise character James Bond and working with a director he knows quite well, Christopher Nolan.
"Oh, wow, Chris would be amazing! Wow, that would be cool. That would be so cool." He cautiously continues, "You know, there’s a saying amongst us in the fraternity of acting, and in the fellowship of my peer group, that if you talk about it you’re automatically out of the race. So I can’t possibly comment on that one! If I mention it, it’s gone. But Chris Nolan, what a fantastic director for a Bond movie. Because Daniel [Craig] is so good, and what [Sam] Mendes and Barbara [Broccoli] have done has been so impressive, that it would be a very hard reimagination to follow after. I wonder what the next installment of that franchise would become, and I think when you mention someone like Christopher Nolan, that’s a very powerful figure to bring into that world who could bring something new and create something profound—again"
We recently learned with Ben Afleck that even NOT saying anything can put the interwebs world into speculation, and now I am thinking how cool it would be to see him as James Bond with Nolan behind the wheel. Hardy definitely has interest in working with Nolan again, and by him even keeping silent to avoid superstition in losing out on the Bond role, it sounds like he has some level of desire to play the iconic character. However, I do have him picked as a certain chili-bowl haircut wearing Green Lantern in the announced Green Lantern Corps movie (keep an eye out for my full list of character picks) but I am sure that he could squeeze this in, if all my dreams come true.
Do you think Hardy would make a great James Bond? Would you like to see him reunite with Christopher Nolan for the film? For those that get my GLC reference, what do you think?
