Earlier this week, I reported that British thesp Will Coulter has joined Leonardo DiCaprio in Alejandro González Iñárritu’s upcoming film The Revenant. In that report, I mentioned that Tom Hardy was also circling the project, and now it looks as if the eagle has landed. The Wrap has announced that Tom Hardy has, indeed, joined the cast of the film.
The actor, who’s been quite busy preparing an impressive slate of films- with plenty on the way- including Legend, The Drop, Child 44, and Mad Max: Fury Road, will now be part of Iñárritu’s period piece. The film will be based on Michael Punke’s book, “The Revenant: A Revenge Novel.” It tells the tale of a man mauled by a grizzly bear, who is left for dead and robbed. When he miraculously survives this experience, he dedicates himself to exacting revenge on the men that left him for dead.
The film is set in the early 1800s, and is said to start filming later this year. If I were a betting man, I’d say Hardy will be playing one of the villains in the picture.
