Tom Holland Discusses Spider-Man: Homecoming 2

Spider-Man: Homecoming is finally mere days away from release and is currently Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a score of 93%. Today, Kevin Feige confirmed the five movie arc Marvel Studios and Sony have planned for Spidey that started with Captain America: Civil War and includes Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers 4, and Spider-Man: Homecoming 2. We already know that Homecoming 2 will be set minutes after Avengers 4 and it is rumored the film will feature another character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, just as Spider-Man: Homecoming features Tony Stark / Iron Man. Other than that, very little is known about the 2019 sequel to Homecoming at this time.

Collider had a chat with actor Tom Holland, who plays the current iteration of Peter Parker / Spider-Man, asking him if he could give any information at all about Spider-Man: Homecoming 2

“I will be on Spider-Man 2 about mid-July next year. I think the most interesting thing about a young man’s life is his journey from being a boy to a man, and imagine seeing that journey while having superpowers. That’s something I know I’m definitely excited to explore. I know Kevin [Feige] and the rest of the team are very excited to explore.”

Though Peter Parker was a high schooler throughout The Amazing Spider-Man, the high school dynamics in Homecoming are far more realistic, entertaining, and present than in that film. Though we also already knew the plan for Homecoming 2 is to cover Peter’s junior year of high school, it’s great to hear that Marvel is taking its time growing Peter into a man, not jumping straight to a high school graduation like the opening of Amazing Spider-Man 2. This high school element is what makes Homecoming most unique and entertaining, and it’s exctiging to know we’ll be getting more of it.

As far as what villain or villains we’ll see in Homecoming 2? Holland was less giving with this answer:

“Villains are obviously the big thing at the moment, but we’ll have to wait and see who we choose. Who they choose.”

Are you excited to watch Peter grow from a boy into a (spider) man? Who would you pick as the villain for the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below!

Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theaters this Friday, July 7.
