Trailer: Dakota Fanning Is A Star Trek-Obsessed Writer In Please Stand By

ONE Media has released the official trailer for their upcoming film, Please Stand By, which stars Dakota Fanning.

In the film, Fanning plays the role of Wendy, an autistic woman who is obsessed with Star Trek. Not only is she a Star Trek fan, but she’s also determined to enter her Trek screenplay for a competition. However, when things go wrong, she finds herself on a road trip to hoof it down to Los Angeles to submit her screenplay before the deadline.

Joining Fanning in the film are Toni Collette, Alice Eve, and Patton Oswalt.

Admittedly, Please Stand By looks both kind of awesome and ridiculously cheesy. They’re definitely going for a real feel good kind of tone here, and it may be too much for a lot of viewers to stomach. Plus, with a portrayal of autism being on display here, you know it’s going to wind up getting criticism one way or another.

That being said, the film also looks to pay loving homage to Star Trek, a franchise generations have grown to love. Plus, with Patton Oswalt in a role, you’d hope that its geekier aspects are ones that wouldn’t ring false to many fans.

Please Stand By hits theaters on January 26, 2017.
