Trailer Drops For Sam Mendes’ Ambitious Single-Shot War Epic 1917

I think it’s against the laws of nature for a film fan to dislike war films. They seem to be staples of classic cinema, and a genre that critics seem to really love…and yet I’ve never been too nuts about them. Of course, I watched them — I had to — but they were never my go-to kind of movie to watch. I think it took me pushing through the boring and formulaic Hacksaw Ridge for that to finally click with me. Even with Dunkirk, I saw a film I respected more than enjoyed.

I had that same sort of mindset when I learned about 1917, the latest movie from Sam Mendes, whose other war effort was Jarhead. Sure, I’d probably watch it and I’d appreciate the craft. But would I like it? Probably not.

And then I learned that this would be a ticking time-bomb of a film — one that plays out in a single shot. Yeah, that’s right. A single shot. Suddenly, this new trailer for the film plays out a whole lot better, doesn’t it?

Below is the official synopsis for 1917:

“At the height of the First World War, two young British soldiers, Schofield (Captain Fantastic’s George MacKay) and Blake (Game of Thrones’ Dean-Charles Chapman) are given a seemingly impossible mission. In a race against time, they must cross enemy territory and deliver a message that will stop a deadly attack on hundreds of soldiers—Blake’s own brother among them.”

So, what do you think? Between the trailer and news that it’ll be played in a single shot, do you think this one is for you? Let us know in the comments down below!
