What a year 2016 has been for movies. If nothing else, it was something of a re-affirmation that we live in the age of big blockbusters. Now, whether or not all these blockbusters were a success is something that’s up for debate, but for the most part, I’d say this year skewed positive for these big budget films. With the year coming to a close, however, it’s time to look ahead to the future.
One of the big films on the docket for 2017 is War for the Planet of the Apes, the anticipated follow-up to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. While hopes weren’t exactly high when this trilogy started, its first film, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, managed to bring forth memorable characters and a compelling narrative. Dawn took those aspects of the first film and dialed them up to 10, with the result, in my mind, ending up as one of the best movies of 2014. It’s been over two years since then, and we are now approaching the last six months until the film’s release, and with that, it was reasonable to assume that we could expect the trailer in the coming few months.
According to the outlet, Germany’s FSK (which is the equivalent of the Motion Picture Association of America) have officially rated the teaser trailer, and it clocks in at 91 seconds. What’s more, it is expected to drop online ahead of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which will be hitting U.S. theaters on December 16th.
If the buzz from New York Comic Con are any indication, we’ll be in for a real treat.
“In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.â€
