Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi seems to have had an amazing experience helming this threequel for Marvel. He’s already expressed his interest to come back and direct another Thor film, but are there any other Marvel films he’d like to tackle?

Speaking with io9, he revealed his interest in, of all things, a Black Widow movie. Here’s what he had to say.

“In all honesty, I reckon I could probably bring something pretty unique to any of the franchises. So, I’d love to see Black Widow. Black Widow as something crazy and a bit funnier than we expect it to be. Because we know her story and it’s very sullen and very dark and her history is very dark. But! What’s the funny version of that? What’s the more entertaining version of that?”

That’s honestly a surprising take. While we’d LOVE to see a Black Widow film (she’s a character Marvel has been surprisingly hesitant to explore in her own movie), our own vision is admittedly limited to pretty much what we’d expect out of it — you know more of a mid-budget crime thriller in the vein of Atomic Blonde (though hopefully a better movie than Atomic Blonde).

While this initial quote from Waititi did throw me off, the more I think it would be interesting to see a more comedic side to the stoic turn-cloak. Would you like to see Waititi make a comedic Black Widow film? Let us know down below!

Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3, 2017.

    Your title makes no sense.

“What Thor: Ragnarok Director Wants To Make A Black Widow Film”
      Yup. That’s pretty awful.

      It could be fixed with
What Thor: Ragnarok Director Wants, Is To Make A Black Widow Film
What Thor Ragnarok Director Wants: To Make A Black Widow Film
      or just

Yup. Title fail. It’s been fixed.

I’d certainly be curious to see what a Waititi Black Widow might look like. But I think he was so well suited to Thor, because he knew that those movies shouldn’t be taking themselves seriously. Whereas BW is pretty dark. I think that does need a more serious tone.

If after 10 years of pleading, if we finally got a solo Black Widow movie, I think it would be a disservice to make Austin Powers instead of James Bond.

      100% agree

I’m all for trying something less predictable but let’s not start turning everything into comedies just because it worked in guardians and apparently Thor……maybe it’s just me but a wisecracking black widow doesn’t sound like something too appealing.

Also as stated below….the title for this article needs a bath.

If you make a Black Widow solo film, it can’t only be about Natasha Romanoff. It should be about all of the women who went through the Red Room. Natasha Romanoff, Dottie Underwood, Yelena Bolova, Monica Chang-Fury, JESSICA DREW, etc.

I feel like there have already been many versions of the Black Widow film we would get. And none of them have really been great. Salt. Haywire. etc.

I can already guess the plot. She’s framed for something she didn’t do and is hunted by SHIELD, and it all ties back to the Red Room. Yawn.

I don’t really want a comedy, but if they DO make the film, I hope the push the idea of what it can be. Or at least just rip-off Die Hard. Just give me anything other than that plot above.

In related news, Taika also expressed desire to make a Schindler’s List remake, but a “funny” take on it.

If they are to make a standalone Black Widow film I would like to see another lead actress portray the title character and it should be rated R for all the gruesome sniper headshots she performs regularly.

I’d watch it, if it was a prequel with some current bookends…
