It’s safe to say that Marvel Studios has done a pretty solid job of retaining their cast over the past nine years. No, they haven’t kept everyone. Terrence Howard and Edward Norton are both early casualties of the heartlessness of the entertainment industry, but all of the major players have pretty much stuck around. You have Robert Downey Jr, you have Chris Evans, you have Chris Hemsworth, you have Scarlett Johansson, and the list goes on.
However, as the universe continues to expand and evolve, and as the films continue to perform well at the box office, the reality is that actors will continue to want a bigger chunk of the pie. We already have Robert Downey Jr taking in hefty sums every time he comes on board a film, and it’s realistic to assume that should the actors renew their contracts, they’ll be in for a hefty raise, and some may not even want to continue playing these characters going forward. For some time, it seemed like Chris Evans wouldn’t be down to renew his contract, but he’s since started singing a different tune.
But what about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2's Chris Pratt? How does Star-Lord himself feel about renewing his contract with Marvel Studios?
“Totally, dude. I want to – I love working with them. I’m going to continue to work with them whether they like it or not. Even if they write me out, I’m going to show up on set and be like, ‘Hey, man!’ They’re done. They don’t get to shake me.”
In a world where Phase 4 is on the horizon, and we have no idea what the Marvel Cinematic Universe will look in the wake of the impending battle with Thanos, this is a little bit of reassurance. Sure, you can chalk this up to an actor making it loud and clear that he wants more work, but enthusiasm like his is wonderful to see in this industry. Should Cap and Stark disappear in the near future, audiences would like to see some familiar faces, and Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord ain’t half bad.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters on May 5, 2017.
