In the past several months, Dwayne The Rock Johnson has signed on to what seems like dozens of projects. Currently, the actor is on board for SAN ANDREAS 2, JUMANJI, DOC SAVAGE, FURIOUS 8, SHAZAM, BAYWATCH, and RAMPAGE. Of course, these are by no means the only projects he's involved with. Given how in demand the action star is, he likely has plenty of projects on the table. One such project is rumored by Deadline to be WOLF MAN.
Universal has been hard at work getting together their Universal Monsters cinematic universe. First up is the MUMMY film starring Tom Cruise, and the INVISIBLE MAN starring Johnny Depp. Eventually, they hope to cross these monsters over á la Marvel in one big monster movie. Obviously, with the first film still in production, there's no way of knowing what the actual status of this universe is, but like with any franchise, it can likely use a shot of adrenaline, which is something the Rock is known for.
So how real are these rumors? Well, the rumor was revealed in a throwaway line in the report about Johnson's producing a film adaptation of the soon-to-be-published graphic novel SON OF SHAOLIN, so it's hard to say. But as stated above, Johnson has been throwing his weight around on the big screen in some pretty high profile titles for quite a while now, and given the amount of effort Universal seems to be throwing into their films in terms of acting talent, it seems like the kind of project the actor may gravitate towards. It would certainly lend an extra air of credibility to the project as the last time we saw the franchise was in the failed reboot in 2010 starring Benicio del Toro.
