Will SUICIDE SQUAD Have A Director's Cut? Director David Ayer Weighs In On Possibility

– by Joseph Medina

By this point, you've undoubtedly already read a myriad of reviews regarding SUICIDE SQUAD, and to be blunt, most of them aren't great. Many comment on how the plot feels overcrowded and muddled, and how the characters don't get nearly enough time to shine in the grand scheme of things.

If you'll recall, one of the bigger criticisms of BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE was that it felt strange and disconnected from itself. Surprisingly enough, when the ULTIMATE EDITION came out, a good number (though not all of) of the problems were resolved (YOU CAN READ OUR REVIEW OF THAT EDITION HERE). With that in mind, some were wondering if a director's cut of SUICIDE SQUAD was in order.

In an interview with Collider, director David Ayer admitted that there were a decent number of scenes that didn't make it into the film. But could we expect a director's cut?

Don't count on it:

"We have a chunk, there's definitely over 10 minutes of material on there. But this cut of the movie is my cut, there's no sort of parallel universe version of this movie, the released movie is my cut. And that's one of the toughest things about writing, shooting, and directing a film, is you end up with these orphans and you f***ing love them and you think they'd be amazing scenes and do these amazing things but the film is a dictatorship (laughs), not a democracy, and just because something's cool and charismatic doesn't mean it gets to survive in the final cut. The flow of the movie is the highest master."

This claim from Ayer goes hand in hand with HIS STANDING BY THE FILM, despite the negative reviews. Even though there were RECENT RUMORS OF A RUSHED PRODUCTION, he seems to have full confidence in the fact that they made the best product possible.

Well, critics seem to have had their way with the film, we'll have to wait and see what the overall fan reaction is.

What are your thoughts on Ayer's comments? Have you had a chance to check out the film yet? If so, do you think it deserves a director's cut? Let us know in the comments down below!
