– by Michael Connally

Wonder Woman: The Art and Making of the Film, the latest release by Titan Books’, is a beautiful compendium full of ravishing artwork and knowledge into the world of Themyscira, and the Amazons’ .

This book is a tribute to all the Wonder Women of the past, with early sketches of Diana Prince, as well as artwork and modern images of Gal Gadot in the full Wonder Woman outfit. The size, weight, and occasional rough page gives this book a high-quality feel too.

The introduction by director Patty Jenkins and inquisitive little behind-the-scenes anecdotes make it entertaining for film fans to learn more about the filmmaking process.

In addition to offering more detailed descriptions of the film’s characters, this book guides us through the process and design of the film’s massive sets and locations.  Wonder Woman: The Art and Making of the Film goes into great description of the Amazons’ weaponry, including Wonder Woman’s sword, battle armor and, of course, Wonder Woman’s archetypal gauntlets, lasso and shield. There is an immense amount of detail that is shown both to the designers and to the film’s subjects, especially the Amazon women who were brilliant and absolute fighters.

Wonder Woman: The Art and Making of the Film also outlines many of the film’s battle sequences, along with captivating storyboard depictions of thought sketches that show how the filmmakers planned to shoot the movie’s action scenes.

The biggest surprise of this book comes from Wayne Enterprises and contains the biggest surprise insert that I have ever seen in this type book.  Inside the back cover, is a black envelope attached with the Wayne Enterprises logo stamped on the front.  Inside the black envelope is a replica of the most popular  photo in the DCEU.  It is of the film’s main characters, including Steve, Charlie, Chief, and Sameer in the iconic pose, which has become one of the most important photos in the history of the DCEU.

Overall, fans of the film and Wonder Woman will not be able to put this book down.  It is an absolute must for all fans of us.  Wonder Woman: The Art and Making of the Film gets the best recommendation for all of us at LRM.
