WonderCon 2017: Patty Jenkins Talks Pressure of Being a Female Superhero Director for Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman is the perfect vehicle for a woman to break the directing glass ceiling for superhero movies.

In less than two months, Wonder Woman will be in theaters to be the first female lead superhero on the big screen in more than a decade. There will be high expectations, especially with a female director in the male-dominated industry of superhero movies.

LRM caught up with Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins late last month fora brief discussion on the pressure at the helm of this film.

Jenkins exclusively told LRM that she sought to make a “great film” and to focus “eye on the prize.”

Wonder Woman stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Connie Nielsen, David Thewlis and Elena Anaya.

In this origin story for Wonder Woman, the film looks at Diana, the princess of the Amazons, in her initial training on the island. A pilot crashes from the outside world to convince her to leave home to fight a war to end all wars—thus discovering her full powers and true destiny.

Wonder Woman will be in theaters on June 2nd.
