At the D23 Expo Animation Panel the attendees got to see some amazing clips of what's to come from the three Disney animation studios. From footage from films that haven't even been titled yet, to the next movie to be released, Coco. Rich Moore and Phil Johnston gave the crowd a little background behind the upcoming sequel, Ralph Breaks The Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2. In this new movie we see Ralph and Vanellope get sent to the world of the internet to find a cure for Vanellope's broken game. By taking Ralph and Vanellope into the internet, it allows the Wreck-It universe to expand into the more modern video game universe and other areas that weren't available in the first film. From the initial clips that were shown, this sequel has a feel of Wreck-It Ralph meets Inside Out. Ralph is in a new territory with the world of the internet brought to life meeting such things like adware, algorithms, and of course Disney.com.
Sarah Silverman, who is the voice of Vanellope, came to help introduce the clip where Vanellope and Ralph have traveled to the internet to find a fix for her game. Lost and not knowing where to go, the duo meet a new character Yesss, played by Tarji P. Henson, who is an alogarithm that can constantly shift her hair and looks. Yesss works for a website called Buzzaholics, but is willing to help Vanellope and Ralph. This is where the rough cut of the scene begins of Yesss trying to explain to Ralph how something goes viral on the internet. While confusing them both Yesss takes them to the one place that has everything, Disney.com, and this is where Vanellope is introduced to the Disney Princesses for the first time.
Vanellope sneaks into the princesses' dressing room, where it changed from rough storyboard cuts, to an almost-finished edit. Immediately entering the dressing room, the princesses surround her with weapons from their movies, including Cinderella breaking her glass slipper over a chair making a shank. After some tense dialogue, Vanellope convinces the women that she is a princess as well. The dialogue from that moment to the end of the scene makes fun at every issue that has been made in these films from daddy issues, naivety, white knight syndrome, etc. (there's even a joke about them being unable to understand Merida's thick accent). The scene ends with C-3P0 coming in to tell the princesses they are needed for their meet and greets followed by a very Mean Girls reaction from the princesses calling him R2-D2 and BB-8 on purpose.
This scene have the entire audience in full out laughter throughout the scene. Without a doubt, Wreck-It Ralph 2 will be made for a wider audience than its predecessor.
In a very iconic moment at the panel, John Lasseter came out to start the introduction of all the living actresses who voiced the princesses to come out on stage. Of all the actors to voice the princesses, we got to see: Paige O’Hara, Linda Larkin, Irene Bedard, Anika Noni Rose, Mandy Moore, Kelly Macdonald, Kristen Bell, Auli’I Cravalho, Sarah Silverman all come out on stage one at a time to thunderous applause.
