X-Men: Apparently Patrick Stewart WOULD Be Open To Playing Professor X Again, For Deadpool

Logan is a film that was set to be an emotional thrillride for X-Men fans worldwide. Yes, it would serve as the last time Hugh Jackman would be playing Wolverine, but recently, even Patrick Stewart stated this would be his last go-around. The sentiments he expressed were absolutely beautiful, and were enough to bring a grown man to tears. Here is that quote:

“A week ago, Friday night in Berlin, the three of us sat, watching the movie. And I was so moved by it, much more moved than I had been the first time of seeing it. Maybe it was the company of these two guys, but the movie ended and — this is an admission — but at one point [Hugh] reached out, and he took my hand in those last few minutes, and I saw him go [mimes wiping a tear from his eye] like this, and then I realized I had just done the same thing. Then, the movie ended… and we were going to be taken up on stage, but not until the credits were over. So, we had some time to sit there and, as I sat there I realized there will never be a better, a more perfect, a more sensitive, emotional, and beautiful way of saying au revoir to Charles Xavier than this movie. So, I told [Hugh] that same evening, ‘I’m done too. It’s all over.’”

We agree that this is the perfect swansong for the character, and given how emotionally resonant it is as a whole, we figured Stewart was telling the truth. Like many actors in Hollywood, Stewart seems to be hardpressed to actually retire his character. In a recent interview with MTV, Stewart expressed a specific circumstance that would allow him to return to the franchise.

“I would have said yes, but the discussion just now about Deadpool makes me think, well, maybe there is a proper justification for the revival of Charles Xavier.”

We find ourselves a bit torn on this. Of course, we’d like to see more of Charles Xavier in the future from Patrick Stewart, but as mentioned above, there was something very right about this being both his and Hugh Jackman’s last X-Men film. However, the flipside of this is that we’d love, love, love to see a Patrick Stewart Professor X have to put up with Deadpool’s unpredictable and foulmouthed behavior. If Stewart’s previous comments had made that potential interaction seem unobtainable, then keep your fingers crossed, because it still seems like a possibility.
